Frequently Asked Questions
Who is Parallel Story Project for?
Parallel Story Project is designed for teens and adults who want a more immersive, story-driven way to learn. It’s built for English speakers learning Spanish and Spanish speakers learning English.
What level of learner is PSP best for?
PSP is best for beginner-intermediate to intermediate learners who want a more immersive, story-driven way to build comprehension, pronunciation, and fluency. Each story also includes three experience levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) of flashcard support, so you can adjust the difficulty level as your skills grow.
Do I need to take a placement test?
No. Each story includes phrases for three experience levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced), so you can choose the level that feels right for you. As your skills improve, you can revisit the same story with more challenging phrases.
How is PSP different from other language-learning tools?
PSP teaches through immersive story experience rather than isolated vocabulary or disconnected drills. Each story kit combines listening, reading, shadowing, and phrase review so the language is learned in context and reinforced from multiple angles.
Are the stories written in old or difficult language?
No. While many stories are based on classic works, they are carefully updated and translated into clear, modern English and Spanish to support natural understanding and real-world usage.
What if I don’t understand the story?
That’s completely normal at first. PSP is designed to support you in multiple ways. The narration, woven bilingual text, and phrase support help you understand meaning as the story unfolds. Each story also includes three experience levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) of phrase support, so you can choose what’s most helpful for you.
Because the system is designed to reinforce language through listening, reading, shadowing, and phrase recall, we encourage you not to constantly pause the story to relisten or write down every unfamiliar word. Instead, allow the story to unfold and focus on following the overall meaning.
The PSP Method works best when you stay engaged with the story and let the built-in supports do their job. Over time, repeated exposure helps the language become more familiar and natural, and your comprehension will begin to grow without needing to interrupt the flow.
What is woven bilingual narration?
Woven bilingual narration means English and Spanish are blended together throughout the story rather than separated into two blocks. This keeps the story flowing while helping you understand meaning naturally as you read and listen.
What is shadowing?
Shadowing is the practice of repeating what you hear just after the speaker. It helps build pronunciation, rhythm, confidence, and speaking fluency through imitation and repetition.
What is included in a story kit?
Each story kit includes the core tools you need to work through the story with structure and support:
- audio narration
- shadowing audio
- story text
- Curated key phrases with premade flashcards at three experience levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced
- Story-specific speaking prompts
The goal is to give you a complete, streamlined system without requiring you to build your own study materials.
What is included in the Free Starter Kit?
The Free Starter Kit gives you an introduction to the PSP method using a featured story, along with key tools like audio, text, curated key phrase with premade flashcards and story-specific speaking prompts. It’s designed to help you experience how the system works before exploring the full library.
Do I need to follow the system perfectly?
No. PSP is designed to be flexible. Some days you might listen to the story, other days you might read, shadow, or review phrases. Even short sessions help reinforce the language. The goal is consistent exposure over time, not a rigid study routine.
How much time should I spend each day?
PSP is designed to work well in short, consistent sessions. Even 5–15 minutes a day of listening, reading, shadowing, or phrase review can be effective over time. The goal is steady exposure and reinforcement, not long, exhausting study sessions.
Do I need to make my own flashcards or study plan?
No. PSP is designed to remove that extra friction. Each story kit includes a curated set of pre-made flashcards at multiple experience levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced), so you can focus on engaging with the language instead of building your own system from scratch.
Will this help me actually speak the language?
Yes — that is one of the main goals of the PSP Method. By combining listening, reading, shadowing, and phrase recall, PSP helps you build comprehension, pronunciation, speaking rhythm, and confidence using language that comes directly from enjoyable story context.
